The Richardson Family YMCA
YConnections

Members of the Richardson YMCA's Y-Connection program visited the Dallas Museum of Art during its Thursday night Jazz in the Atrium event the end of September. Each month members choose from four to six activities. October events include a trip to Screams in Waxahachie, Six Flags, and Loews Movie Theater.

The Y-Connection program is a social program designed for adults with learning differences. It was founded in 1985 when six families got together to try to help their young adults have a social life with their peers. As interest and participation grew it was soon apparent that a more formal organization was needed, and the program was adopted first by the YWCA and, in January 2004, by the Richardson YMCA. What began as a social gathering in the living room of a parent has grown into a YMCA program with over 50 members and 4 to 6 social activities per month. In addition to monthly activities members sometimes participate in an out of town trips. Past years have offered trips to Galveston, San Antonio, Houston, Las Vegas, California (Disneyland), and several Caribbean cruises.
